A viral video appeared on Sunday showing Atlanta Dream players Courtney Williams and Crystal Bradford and former player Kalani Brown brawling with some other women in front of a Tenders & Bites food truck, Insider reports. Brown was supposedly trying to break up the fight, but in the video, it’s clearly a losing battle.
The video was actually taken in May, early in the team’s season and a source says it began when someone made a comment about Williams’ girlfriend. The gathering also violated the league’s COVID-19 protocols at the time.
“The behavior in the video is unacceptable and does not align with our values as an organization,” the Dream said in a statement to Insider. “We are taking this matter very seriously and working with the league to gather more information and determine next steps.”
If there have been any internal repercussions, they have not kept Williams on the bench. She started in all 32 games of the season. Early in July, a starter named Chennedy Carter was indefinitely suspended after getting into an altercation with Williams in the locker room and has not played a game in 2021.
The video was apparently first released by Williams herself on YouTube, where she was joking about it, but she has since taken it down and tweeted an apology.
“I want to sincerely apologize for the video posted yesterday,” Williams wrote. “I would never want to represent myself or the organization in a negative way. I’m learning everyday so I ask for grace as I’m growing. Again I apologize to all attached, and I will be better moving forward.”
