Living during a time when cameras are so easily accessible and so often rolling means that people are constantly capturing footage of some of the most bizarre, and even horrifying, moments in their lives.
Hannah Viverette experienced this for herself recently when an intruder entered her apartment while she already had her camera rolling.
Viverette was dancing alone in her apartment in Hagerstown, Maryland when she says she heard the door leading to her balcony on the second floor begin to open.
“Startled, I immediately moved towards the door to close it, only to realize there was a man behind the force,” she wrote on Facebook.
The door is just off-screen in the actual footage, but the sound of a door opening can be heard over the music, and Vivarette’s reaction is blatantly one of confusion and fear.
“Who are you?” she demands repeatedly, turning the music off.
Despite the man being an intruder, she politely asks him to “please get out,” and her captions on the video say he responded by asking “Am I your friend?”
“No!” she replies.
Viverette then picks up her phone, still recording, and retreats to her front door, which she holds open as she continues telling him to get out. At that point, the man is clearly visible standing halfway into her apartment.
In a subsequent Facebook post, she said the man had been identified as Angel Moises Rodriguez-Gomez and lives in the apartment complex across the street from hers.
Viverette said that she had seen him around her building almost every single day since she moved in and that he “has made a point to watch me and make many uncomfortable advances at me from a distance, for months now.”
“For so long I brushed it off, assuming him to ‘just be a creep,’” she wrote. “It was the moment I came face to face with him at my door that I knew he was there to harm me.”
She said that the police arrested him but he was ultimately released on bail after admitting to being in her apartment but claiming that she invited him…to climb up her balcony and let himself in.
Now, Viverette is hoping to find other people who have had experiences with this man to build up a case.
“This cannot be the first attempt he’s ever made to act on stalker behavior,” she wrote. “If anyone knows ANYTHING about this man or have ever felt/been uncomfortable/harassed, assaulted in ANY way by him, PLEASE SPEAK UP!! I refuse to live in fear and I refuse to let him continue doing this to me or ANYONE.”
