This TikTok “Catfish” Trend Shows What People Really Look Like

TikTok: @magosslaboss

Hair, makeup, and taking selfies are all art forms, in my opinion. People have gotten incredibly good at styling themselves, doing all their own makeup, and finding their light. Is this catfishing? According to the people who do it really well, it definitely is.

On TikTok right now, the best artists are exposing all their secrets, showing how they look when their filters are up to 100 and how they look right after getting out of the shower. The trend was started when popular TikToker @moldogaa shared a video of how they looked with a Snapchat filter, and how she looked without.

"Just took this photo on Snapchat… " she says. "I do NOT look like that! Catfish – MEOW!"

She's very pleased with herself:

This turns out to be a very relatable thing to do because all over TikTok people are using her sound and sharing the photos they use when they need a confidence boost versus how they look in a darkened room watching TikToks. In many cases, the difference is staggering. In others, I think this is more of an issue of lighting and angles. Get that ring light, don't photograph under your chin, and you are golden.

In a way, these TikToks are a boot camp on how to take flattering selfies. Thank you, creators:
