Most of us probably haven’t thought too much about who R. Kelly shared a cell with while awaiting trial, but the 37-year-old man’s name is Brendan Hunt, according to the Daily News, and he has been thrust into the spotlight for making a comic book about what life on the inside the Metropolitan Detention Center with the infamous musician was like.

The drawings were submitted to the Brooklyn Federal Court as part of a formal request to have his sentence be time-served, I guess because shacking up with R. Kelly is the real punishment?

The comics are about what Kelly and Hunt got up to most days, from the day they met to the time they spent doing yoga, working out, and listening to music, and include a few fun quotes from Kelly, like, “I’m the greatest R&B star in human history! How can you not know of R. Kelly?”

Probably because Hunt is a MAGA head. He was sent to prison in April for making videos from footage of the January 6th Capitol riots and saying the rioters should return to “kill your senators,” and additionally made some very graphic threats against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Let’s say he has very specific interests.

Allegedly, at least according to Hunt’s comics, they became friends and “found a lot of common ground as musicians and artists.” Hunt’s lawyers shared the comics to show he has creative ambitions and is capable of making friends—or at least drawing himself making friends.

Meanwhile, Kelly was found guilty of kidnapping, sexual exploitation of a child, and racketeering in September. Since then, he’s made even more money, with album sales rising more than 500 percent the week of his verdict, Rolling Stone reported at the time. Arts and crime are apparently really good for one another.
