Flying is a very stressful way to travel, but the situation at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon is above and beyond the usual annoyance with cramped seats and having to take your shoes off.
A massive brawl broke out in the American Airlines terminal, Local 10 News reports, starting over the number of seats available on a plane that seven people were trying to board, making up two different groups. They did not settle who would get the seats peacefully.
Video of the scene shows that the fight spread across the lounge, with several people fighting each other, then moving off to fight others, then banding together again. At first, people watch stunned, then there are others telling the group to “stop” can be heard, but it falls on deaf ears.
Eventually, bystanders begin to intervene and pull the brawlers off one another, to various degrees of success. One person was arrested for disorderly conduct out of the group, 20-year-old Jameel Tremain Decquir, who was accused of starting the fight when he punched someone from the other group in the face as they moved away from the airline counter.
Though it looks like everyone is actively fighting, the police said that one male victim was covering the body of a woman from his group on the ground as they were both punched and kicked. It looks horrible, but there were only minor injuries. Three other people involved have not been found.
That this is not the time to be traveling is clearer than ever.
