According to a report from TMZ, hip-hop producer Metro Boomin’s mother, Leslie Joanne Wayne, was murdered on Friday night.
The act of violence is being reported by TMZ as a murder-suicide committed by Wayne’s husband, who is not Metro Boomin’s biological father. There is no news on the identity of Wayne’s spouse at this point. The tragedy is said to have occurred just outside of Atlanta on June 3.
A representative for Metro Boomin, whose real name is Leland Tyler Wayne, hasn’t answered questions, but rather is directing people to the TMZ report for information.
According to the TMZ report, “An autopsy will be conducted for an official cause of death. Metro’s rep confirms [Wayne] died this weekend — adding that he and his family request privacy during this difficult time.”
Metro Boomin and his three siblings were raised by Wayne in St. Louis, and she noticed his talent for music at an early age. His mother was his biggest supporter in his early career and would even drive him from St. Louis to Atlanta to help him achieve his dream.
Metro Boomin’s first appearance on the Billboard Artist 100 was in 2017, and he hit an all-time high at No. 4 on the Billboard list in October of 2020. He has been on the Hot 100 chart a grand total of 31 times in his career so far, with two Top 10 hits back in 2020, which were “Runnin” with 21 Savage (No. 9) and “Mr. Right Now” with 21 Savage, which features Drake (No. 10).
