‘GOATs Don’t Dance’—Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Slams LeBron’s ‘Big Balls’ Dance As ‘Stupid, Childish’

Sam Cassell’s “Big Balls” dance was briefly revived by NBA players LeBron James and Fred VanVleet and both of them have been fined $15,000 by the NBA. Will this be enough of a fee to kill the trend? James did the dance after landing a three-point shot against the Indiana Pacers, so he might have been aware of the Toronto Raptors guard having to pay up.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has an opinion about last week’s Big Balls dance fever, and the short of it is that he doesn’t like it. At all. He published that opinion on his own Substack.

“Last week, LeBron was fined $15,000 for doing a big balls dance after his win over the Pacers,” Abdul-Jabbar said in a recorded segment. “The NBA has been fining players between $15,000 and $25,000 for doing this dance since the 2010-2011 season.”

He continued, “For me, winning is enough. Why do you need to do a stupid, childish dance, and disrespect the other team on the court? It doesn’t make sense, GOATs don’t dance.”

He seems to be joking, a little bit, but I do think the man is a little disappointed to see people showboating in this particular way. Maybe he could never get the dance right himself.

Some watchers pointed out that Kobe Bryant did the dance himself at least once:
