James Harden made headlines for the second time in a week on Tuesday, after a video leaked in which he appeared to be hanging out with a group of people in a packed nightclub. Now, the NBA is investigating to determine whether the Houston Rockets star violated COVID-19 protocols.
For somewhat obvious reasons, players are banned from entering bars, nightclubs, live entertainment venues, gyms, or indoor social gatherings with more than 15 people. If it is determined that the video was taken recently, Harden could miss Wednesday's Opening Night game, and could likewise face fines or suspension.
And, as it turns out, according to the Houston Chronicle, the video was leaked from an Instagram account that had been promoting an event that just took place on Monday night. Whoops!
The 41-second video in question shows Harden receiving Dior luggage as a present. Another clip in the video shows people dancing in the club and a video screen in the background says “Selective Group.” That group’s Instagram page, which has been changed to private, had been promoting the Selective Group Winter Ball scheduled for Monday night.
In response to the allegations, Harden posted an Instagram story that seemed to take more umbrage with early reports that the club had been a strip—rather than that he's being accused of breaking protocols.
Previously, Harden showed up looking a few pounds heavier during his first game of the preseason last Tuesday night, after being a no-show at training camp. Harden's lack of enthusiasm for his current team has been one of the worst kept secrets in the NBA. He has reportedly made several attempts at being traded to another team.
Unfortunately for him, these antics are probably not going to help him land a new team. But in the meantime, it appears that he won't be playing with the Rockets in the immediate future.
