Grand Theft Auto V has given so much to society, and it’s not done. The Lamar Roast Franklin meme has been around so long it has died and come back half a dozen times. This new version might be its final form.
According to Know Your Meme, people started meme-ing the scene between Lamar and Franklin, which has Lamar saying this:
"Ah, n---a, don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful, n---a. Maybe if you got rid of that old yee-yee ass haircut you got you'd get some b-tches on your d--k. Oh, better yet, maybe Tanisha'll call your dog-ass if she ever stop f--kin' with that brain surgeon or lawyer she f--king with."
The phrase "yee yee ass" became a part of the cultural vernacular, specifically meaning "something that looks extremely horrible."
This was in 2013, and the phrase and entire convo has inspired all sorts of art, from YouTube remixes to cross-stitching to computer wallpaper. And now in 2020, it's getting digitally remixed again. Twitter user @leosleepy ran the text through some sort of Spongebob filter:
And Darth Vader invaded the scene, fully garbed, so no one really knows what his hair looks like:
Now, YouTube channel PlayStation Haven has put a button on the whole thing by inviting voice actors Slink Johnson and Shawn Fonteno to perform their original roles IRL.
Not only do they nail their original vocals, they've embodied the character's every look and gesture. Lamar roasting Franklin has gotten so real, it's no longer a game. It's the world we live in.
