Over the weekend, a clip of Lil Nas X on Instagram Live started circulating in which he jokes that he is making music with rapper Boosie Badazz, which is laughable for a few reasons. One, Lil Nas X is on another planet in terms of status than Boosie. For another, Boosie is wildly homophobic and has been attacking Lil Nas X for months. But the Montero musician has a sense of humor about it.

In the video, Nas says, “I been working on this song with Lil Boosie, bro. I have this song with Lil Boosie, gonna come out.”

Boosie saw the viral video and wrote back some of the nastiest stuff allowed on Twitter, though it was eventually deleted for violating their rules.

“STOP TROLLING ME F—– LOL!! U A WHOLE B—- PLAYING WITH A GANGSTA SMH U CAN KEEP SUCKING D— N GETTIN F—ED N YOUR A– N PEACE N #uhateyourself I WOULD TOO IF I WAS YOU LOL NASx IF YOU #commitsuicide YOU WOULD DO THIS WORLD A HUGE FAVOR NOBODY WANTS U HERE,” he wrote on Saturday.

Lil Nas X didn’t exactly respond to Boosie, but he did write this tweet that seems like it’s about to be a serious confession and then definitely is not:

The thing is, not only is Boosie hostile and homophobic, but he’s also old, so Lil Nas X is always going to run circles around him on the Internet. It’s something he should accept, along with gay people existing.

Despite his joking demeanor, Nas X does take issues around violence and mental health in the LGBTQ+ community seriously. He was recently honored as The Trevor Project‘s Suicide Prevention Advocate of the Year.

During his speech, he said, “Discrimination around sexuality and gender identity is still very real, and our community deserves to feel supported and totally free to be themselves. I often get messages from fans telling me about their struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts, and it made me realize that this was something bigger than myself. If using my voice and expressing myself in my music can help even one kid out there who feels alone, then it was all worth it.”
