Bella Thorne is ruffling feathers after taking credit for being the first celebrity to start an OnlyFans account, theoretically kick off a wave of famous folks joining — something that isn’t necessarily a good thing.
“Everyone jumping on ONLY fans but I took the hit for doing it firsttttt coooool,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories. “This keeps happening to me… Legit everyone in my news feed following in my footsteps.”
Thorne joined OnlyFans back in August, immediately raking in $1 million in subscriptions on her very first day. The platform has primarily been used by sex workers over the years, and Thorne’s arrival set people on edge, concerned that it could pose a threat to their income.
And they were right. Not long after joining, Thorne allegedly “scammed” fans by charging them $200 for what she claimed was a naked photo, only to send out a clothed photo instead. This resulted in a number of chargebacks by dissatisfied users and caused OnlyFans to implement policy changes that cut down on earning potential for others using the site.
At the time, Thorne apologized, saying she was just trying to remove the “stigma” associated with OnlyFans and sex work, something she has expressed interest in doing in the past.
But now, the former Disney star seems to have forgotten that the backlash surrounding her foray into OF had to do with the harm she caused, not any stigma for joining a site largely used by sex workers.
Additionally, she simply wasn’t the first celebrity to open an OnlyFans account.
People are understandably less than thrilled with this rewrite of history, and have been expressing as much ever since Thorne’s post.
Don't hold your breath.
